Rain days

Today’s Daily Prompt: “Safe inside, toasty warm, while water pitter-patters on the roof… describe your perfect, rainy afternoon.”

The rain is hitting the large glass doors with a steady, constant beat almost masking the crackle of the fire in the fireplace opposite. Through the doors the upper reaches of Sydney Harbour (or perhaps up this far you should call it the Parramatta River) seen over the houses are grey in the afternoon light filtering through the clouds.

The large screen TV is bright in the half light. The movie is slightly loud and slightly ignored as I sit, slouched, on the three seater leather couch with the woman snuggled into my shoulder. I’ve seen ‘The Lord of The Rings’ trilogy on Blu-Ray more than once so I can devote a deal of attention to flirting and kissing while it unfolds in front of us.

We had devoted the morning to ‘The Fellowship of The Ring’ and making love before a lunch of thick vegetable soup and bread rolls fresh from the oven. A huge thank you to the man that invented bread rolls that can go straight from freezer to oven.

Now as the afternoon closed in we had lit a fire and settled down to watch the second movie with coffee from the espresso machine and almond biscuits from the local pasticceria.

A sudden gust and the rain hits the windows harder grabbing our attention for a moment before we settle back into the comfort of loving arms and warm room.
